Last year, SkyBest introduced its newest service, Total Connect video solutions, by adding mobile control to arm and disarm your security system and receive real-time access to motion-driven alerts. The automation solutions give you the ability to control a variety of home or business settings including lights, locks, temperature controls or garage doors. These solutions are designed for residential and business needs, and have brought one High Country resident a newfound sense of security for her home and business.

Boone resident Jenny Schrum, who also owns Safe Haven Mini-Storage in Deep Gap, was referred to SkyBest after experiencing a home invasion late last year. SkyBest’s Security Technician Zach Davis met with Schrum to discuss equipment options, pricing and installation. After equipping her home with a monitored security system and Total Connect real-time access to arm/disarm the system and to receive notifications on her mobile device, Schrum can feel more secure. “Zach has been so helpful and good to work with, and learning to use the system was very easy,” she said. “I couldn’t sleep at night without a security system, and now, I’m not afraid — I feel cozy and safe as can be.”

Using Honeywell Total ConnectTM Video Solutions, you can record and store video clips, take snapshots or have pictures emailed to your PC or mobile device upon an event.

Jenny Schrum is the owner of Safe Haven Mini-Storage in Deep Gap, which includes six buildings comprising 206 rental units. She also manages a U-Haul dealership at this location with a full range of moving vehicles and equipment.

Securing other people’s possessions is Schrum’s other priority at Safe Haven Mini-Storage, so she turned again to SkyBest and Davis for assistance when she wanted to further enhance security there.  Following break-ins to a few storage units earlier this year, the Ashe County Sheriff’s Department recommended that Schrum add surveillance cameras, lights, signs and an on-site guard. SkyBest Security installed two security cameras, which gives Schrum real-time video access to her entire property through her Internet connection and mobile device at any time, plus she can receive email alerts when any activity is detected on the property. An individual also now resides on the property as a back-up.

Schrum was also pleased that costs for an immediate solution were not insurmountable. “I was thankful to get financing options on the equipment through SkyBest so the cost would not be beyond my reach,” she said.

Her customers appreciate the extra measures she’s implemented at Safe Haven to keep their belongings safe, and she reports her business is as ‘full’ as it’s ever been.  “My tenants like it, and they really appreciate the effort.”
